Although I'm best known as an author for young adults, my two newest books Stewards of the Flame and Promise of the Flame are adult novels and are neither appropriate for YA readers nor of interest to them. They are enjoyed by people who don't ordinarily read science fiction as well as those who do. For more information about them, watch the video trailer below and visit http://www.stewardsoftheflame.com.

Previously I wrote 6 novels for teens that are also enjoyed by many adults, all of which were first published in the 1970s by Atheneum and which have been republished in both hardcover and paperback editions by different publishers in the 21st century. All except my Newbery Honor book Enchantress from the Stars were updated -- particularly important in terms of relevance to today's readers are the revisions to The Far Side of Evil and Journey Between Worlds. My trilogy Children of the Star (consisting of This Star Shall Abide, Beyond the Tomorrow Mountains, and The Doors of the Universe) was republished in a single volume as adult science fiction.

I work as a freelance editor of nonfiction anthologies, so many of the books in my list were edited, rather than written, by me.

If you've enjoyed any of my books, please add me as a friend!

Elana, a member of an interstellar civilization on a mission to a medieval planet, becomes the key to a dangerous plan to turn back an invasion. How can she help the Andrecians, who still believe in magic and superstition, without revealing her own alien powers? At the same time, Georyn, the son of an Andrecian woodcutter, knows only that there is a dragon in the enchanted forest, and he must defeat it. He sees Elana as the Enchantress from the Stars who has come to test him, to prove he is worthy. One of the few science fiction books to win a Newbery Honor, this novel will enthrall teenage an
